30-Day Travel Language Plan: Be Ready Before You Land
Heading abroad in a month? This day-by-day plan builds the travel phrases, listening confidence, and vocabulary you actually need at airports, hotels, restaurants, and emergencies.
You booked the flight. Now you have 30 days to go from "hello" to handling real travel situations without panic. This plan is realistic for busy adults: 20 to 30 minutes daily, focused on phrases you will actually say.
Week 1: Survival foundations (Days 1-7)
Days 1-2: Greetings, please/thank you, excuse me, yes/no, numbers 1-20.
Days 3-4: Airport and transit: boarding pass, gate, luggage, ticket, where is.
Days 5-6: Hotel: reservation, room key, Wi-Fi password, checkout time.
Day 7: Review all Week 1 cards. Record yourself saying each phrase.
Use Lexyk flashcards with audio. Hearing correct pronunciation early prevents embarrassing mistakes at the counter.
Week 2: Food and money (Days 8-14)
Days 8-9: Restaurant basics: table for two, menu, water, bill, vegetarian.
Days 10-11: Shopping and prices: how much, too expensive, card or cash, receipt.
Days 12-13: Directions: left, right, straight, near, far, map.
Day 14: Mock conversation. Order food aloud from a menu photo.
Photograph real menus with Lexyk camera translation to build a personal food deck from your destination cuisine.
Week 3: Social and problem solving (Days 15-21)
Days 15-16: Small talk: weather, where are you from, I am learning your language.
Days 17-18: Health and emergencies: help, pharmacy, hurt, allergy, police.
Days 19-20: Phone and connectivity: SIM card, charger, reservation confirmation.
Day 21: Voice chat session in Lexyk. Practice explaining a problem at the hotel desk.
Week 4: Confidence and immersion (Days 22-30)
Days 22-24: Watch travel vlogs in your target language. Capture 5 phrases per video.
Days 25-27: Shadow native speakers from short clips. Focus on rhythm, not perfection.
Days 28-29: Full role-play day: airport morning, lunch order, evening directions.
Day 30: Light review only. Trust your deck. Pack confidence, not cramming.
Daily habits that multiply results
- Morning: 10 minutes of flashcard review.
- Commute: listen to one travel dialogue podcast.
- Evening: 5 minutes voice practice.
